A Place to Be for Wine Lovers: Wolfville, Nova Scotia

.

.

The most delightful red wines I ever drank were a Maréchal Foch and a Baco Noir from Blomidon Estates in Nova Scotia, Canada.  You knew that Nova Scotia has more than 30 wineries?  And the neighbor provinces make up leeway.  It's becoming a big agri-industry in the Maritimes.  Well industry is maybe the wrong word as these are mostly small, family-owned vineyards. .

Not many of these wineries deliver to government stores and that's why wine lovers have few opportunities to savor Maritime wines - unless they reside in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick or PEI - or travel East to sample and buy the lovely wines.

Blomidon Estate Winery Invites You
Their new patio / tasting bar, nestled among the vineyards is a great place for trying new wines, meeting friends and learn about winemaking.  From now on, all wine connoisseurs who visit the new patio at Blomidon Estates will have a wonderful view over a sea of grape-vines from which the delightful content in their wine glasses is created.  Winemaker Simon Rafuse is looking forward to greet wine lovers.  Don't miss to try the Fox Hill Artisan Cheeses that are produced just down the road and are available too.

Their invitation:  "Designed and crafted by Annapolis Valley architects, engineers, and craftsmen, the new addition takes full advantage of the view of the tides and terroir with a south-facing shop and tasting bar, updated to reflect the character of the vineyard and farmland around us."

Special Reserve: the 2010 Maréchal Foch
This outstanding wine recently received high praise by Craig Pinhey, Atlantic Canadian sommelier, wine judge, and writer.  So, I am not the only one who is fond of this 2010 Maréchal Foch ...

Directions to Blomidon Estate Winery
Take Hwy 101 from Halifax, exit Port Williams, direction to Canning.  The winery is on country road 221.  Enjoy your visit anytime, not only on weekends!
.

Another Highlight Nearby:
Next to the winery spreads the "Landscape of Grand Pré", a UNESCOWorld Heritage site since 2012.  It became Canada's 16th World Heritage Site, and is located on the Bay of Fundy's Minas Basin.  It is an exceptional living agricultural landscape, claimed from the sea in the 17th century and an area where the Acadians lived in harmony with the native Mi'Kmaq people before their expulsion through the British in 1755.

Sample Blomidon's best wines, either in Blomidon near Wolfville (the epicenter of wineries in Nova Scotia) or at the Halifax Farmers Market where Blomidon Estate has a booth.  The popular Seaport location is close to Pier 21 and the Halifax train station on Marginal Road.
